Mind Tools & Inspirations: Wave vacation
In this 3-minute practice you invite your brain to take a vacation as you focus your attention on waves gently washing onto the shore, then receding.
TRY THIS…
If you have time, let me guide you so you can focus on your experience.
HERE IS THE PRACTICE
Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
Notice how you feel.
Imagine or have a sense that you are sitting beside a quiet beach with gentle waves washing onto the shore.
Sitting beside a quiet beach with gentle waves.
Have your hands on your legs, palms facing down, close to your waist.
As you inhale slide your hands along your thighs toward knees.
As you exhale slide your hands back toward your waist.
Continue moving and breathing like this at your own pace.
The whole time you are inhaling, your hands are slowly sliding out toward your knees,
The whole time you are exhaling, your hands are slowly sliding back toward your waist.
As you continue to move and breath like this, remember the gentle waves on the beach.
As you are inhaling a wave washes up.
As you are exhaling the wave recedes.
Let the waves align with your breathing.
Inhaling, sliding your hands toward your knees, a wave washing onto the shore.
Exhaling, sliding your hands toward your waist, the wave recedes.
You’re aligning your movements with your breath.
You’re aligning the waves with your breath.
Continue this.
Stay with the feeling for as long as you like.
WHY DO THIS?
Quieting your thoughts by giving your mind something restful and engaging to do can change how you feel.
After I give my mind a short break like this I have more energy and my thinking feels clearer.
Mind Tools & Inspirations are experiences for busy, smart, curious people to help you operate your human system.
The Mind Tools library (https://www.yogamindtools.com/mind-tools-inspirations ) is organized into three groups: Uplifting and Nourishing, Calming and Supportive, Discovery and Exploration.
I add a new experience every week.
