Mind Tools & Inspirations: The friend effect
You and each of your friends develop a unique shared resonance—aspects of you and aspects of them that align.
In this 3-minute practice you appreciate your alignment with a particular friend.
TRY THIS…
If you have time, let me guide you so you can focus on your experience.
HERE IS THE PRACTICE
Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
Bring your thumb and to the tip of the finger next to your thumb together, so that they are touching.
You can use either hand.
Inhale here. Exhale here.
The next time you inhale change so that your middle finger is touching your thumb. Then on your next inhale switch to your third finger.
On your next inhale your little finger touches your thumb.
Each time you inhale you change which finger is touching your thumb.
Continue moving and breathing like this, starting over with your first finger when you finish the sequence.
Now let your hand relax.
Invite a friend to come to mind.
Just wait and allow a friend to come to mind.
Remember spending time with that friend.
Again bring your thumb and first finger together.
Inhale in this position. Exhale in this position.
As you start your next inhale shift to the next finger.
Coordinate the timing so that you change fingers right when you start to inhale.
Let your hand relax.
Return to your friend.
Notice how being with that friend feels.
Notice what aspects of you come to life when you are with them.
Gently bring your attention back.
WHY DO THIS?
What friend showed up during this experience? What aspects of that friend came to mind?
What aspects of you light up when you are with that person?
In this practice you began to explore the unique resonance you and a friend share. It can be fascinating and helpful in daily life to notice how being around different people effects you.
