Mind Tools & Inspirations: Solid ground
A good way to feel like you are on solid ground is to embody the feeling. This 3-minute experience helps you to do that.
TRY THIS…
Have your feel flat on the floor and your hands resting on your thighs, palms facing down.
Close your eyes for a breath or two as you settle in to the practice.
Feel your hands where they are resting.
What parts of your hands are touching your legs?
Explore the sensations that arise.
Feel your body supported by the chair.
Notice the parts of your body that are touching the chair.
What sensations do you become aware of?
Feel your feet supported by the floor.
What parts of your feet are touching the floor?
Explore the sensations that arise.
With your hands on your thighs palms facing down, lean forward a little way, letting your hands and arms support some of your weight.
In this position feel the ground beneath your feet.
Then return to an upright position.
Do this sequence again.
With hands on your thighs, lean forward a little way, letting your hands and arms support some of your weight.
Feel the ground beneath your feet.
Then return to an upright position.
Notice how your feet connect you to solid ground.
Notice what solid ground feels like.

WHY DO THIS?
“Being on solid ground” is a metaphor grounded in a physical experience that can imply coming from a stable foundation, having a secure base, being well-supported, or coming from strength and confidence.
In the solid ground practice you explore the physical feeling of your feet connecting you to the (solid) ground.
That feeling of your feet connecting you to solid ground can help bring the sense of being on solid ground into your life.
You can bring your attention to the feeling of your feet being supported by the ground when you do this practice and in daily life.
