Mind Tools & Inspirations: Opening from inside out
In this 3-minute practice subtle movements and breath help open up space inside of you.
Perhaps your mind and body will feel a little more open, more spacious.
TRY THIS…
If you have time, let me guide you so you can focus on your experience.
HERE IS THE PRACTICE
Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
As you inhale, spread your toes out wide, opening from the inside out.
Exhale let your feet relax.
Continue this.
Moving and breathing at your own pace.
Inhale, spreading your toes out wide.
Exhale, relaxing your feet.
Now sit comfortably.
Imagine or have a sense of a flower bud opening.
Have a sense of a flower bud opening from the inside out.
Gently bring your attention back.
As you inhale, let your breath fill your chest, allowing your chest and ribs to gently expand from the inside out.
Exhale relax.
Continue this exploration.
Moving and breathing at your own pace.
Inhale letting your different areas of your chest and ribs gently expand with your breath.
Exhale, relax.
On your next inhale let your spine lengthen, sitting up tall, your breath helping open space between each vertebrae.
Exhale, relax.
Continue this exploration.
Inhale letting your spine lengthen, opening space from the inside out.
Exhale, relax.
Sit comfortably.
Imagine or have a sense that you are a flower bud opening.
Have a sense of yourself as a flower bud opening from inside out.
As you inhale, spread your toes out wide. Exhale let your feet relax.
WHY DO THIS?
Sitting for hours causes your body to get stuck.
Opening from the inside out, like you did in this practice, is one way to begin to get unstuck. You can do these movements periodically while sitting at your desk, in a meeting or on a bus–expanding your toes and fingers, letting your breath expand your chest and lengthen your spine.
Your mind and body are connected. When your body opens from the inside out, your whole human system is likely to feel more spacious.
Mind Tools & Inspirations are experiences for busy, smart, curious people to help you operate your human system.
