Mind Tools & Inspirations: Leave room for cream
I smile when I hear a coffee shop barista ask someone if they want to “leave room for cream…” (YES! Of course!)
In this 3-minute practice you explore the possibility of leaving room for cream—in your day, in your mind, in your life.
TRY THIS…
If you have time, let me guide you so you can focus on your experience.
HERE IS THE PRACTICE
Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
Coffee shop baristas ask if you want to “leave room for cream…”
Imagine or have a sense of how it feels when you leave “room for cream” in your day.
Bring your attention to your breathing.
Is your inhale fast or slow?
Is your inhale shallow or deep?
What about your exhale– is it short or long?
Do you exhale most of the air in your lungs or just a little air?
As you exhale, softly whisper “Ahhhh.”
Continue this.
Close your mouth but continue to whisper “Ahhh” as you exhale.
Each time you exhale release as much air as you comfortably can.
Gently tighten your abdominal muscles to help squeeze air out.
Slowly releasing the air.
Now sit comfortably.
Let your breath be free.
Imagine or have a sense of how it feels when you leave “room for cream”.
Stay with this feeling for as long as you like.
WHY DO THIS?
This practice focuses on exhale, gently moving toward releasing as much as as you comfortably can.
Then when you sit comfortably and let your breath be free, there is likely to be more space. You have created “room for cream” in your breathing.
Perhaps this feeling inspires an intention to leave room for cream in other aspects of your life.
Mind Tools & Inspirations are experiences for busy, smart, curious people to help you operate your human system.

I add a new experience every week.

I enjoyed this. I envisioned more time to sit with people and really listen to them.
