Mind Tools & Inspirations: A new day
Sunrise gifts you with a fresh start, a new day. In this 3-minute practice you connect with the feeling of a new day.
TRY THIS…
If you have time, let me guide you so you can focus on your experience.
HERE IS THE PRACTICE
Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
Gently cup your hands over your eyes. (If you wear glasses, it would be helpful to take them off.)
You’re not touching your eyes, just resting your hands on your forehead and cheeks.
Keeping your eyes closed, as you inhale bring your arms out wide to the sides.
As you exhale slowly bring your hands back to cup your eyes.
Stay for a full breath with your eyes cupped. Inhaling. Exhaling.
On your next inhale bring your arms out wide to the sides.
As you exhale slowly your hands come back to cup your eyes.
Staying for a full breath.
Continue moving and breathing like this at your own pace.
Now sit comfortably.
Remember or imagine the sense of a new day dawning.
Remember the feeling of a new day.
Again have your hands gently cup your eyes.
As you inhale slowly bring your arms out wide to the sides.
As you exhale slowly bring your hands back to cup your eyes.
Continue moving and breathing like this, and as you inhale and bring your arms out have the sense of a new day.
Pause for a moment at the end of your inhale, arms out wide, experiencing a new day.
Then exhale slowly as your hands come back to cup your eyes.
Continue this pattern. Inviting the sense of a new day each time you inhale and bring your arms out wide. Pausing to feel.
Stay with this feeling for as long as you like.
WHY DO THIS?
How many new days old are you?
Isn’t it amazing to get to start again so many times. To be reminded of possibilities. To renew hope and to try again or to do differently or to simply appreciate being here now.

My new day is a morning I was able to leave work just as the sun came up. I drove through colorless rainbows. I never experienced this again. I find early morning to be the most magical time. I have tried this meditation additionally with cold and warm hands (after coffee). The cold helps to re-set a new day. Happy Holidays Carrie! I am looking forward to your Amazon book An Inside Look at Meditation: Experiences for healing, support, and transformation.
